Chase account by TT guest L. Ryan

Today’s upslope play looked a lot better than yesterday’s, with dew points into the upper 50s or so, maybe a little higher in SE CO vs. NE NM.  Shear was so-so.  I didn’t see enough advantage to stray deeply into CO, so after brunch we drifted northward to about Clayton and Boise City.   The stuff coming off of the Raton Mesa was junk, so south we went to get to new stuff near Logan.  We should have had a much longer brunch in Tucumcari.   A really nice cell beckoned west of Nara Visa, NM.  It sported a TVS marker, but I don’t recall it getting tornado-warned.  We snuck in front of it along U.S. 54, southwest of Nara Visa.  It had a good organized look, and a nice lowered area.  But it was starting to spill cold air when we got close — no tornado for this one.  The pics below were taken southwest of Nara Visa, and between Logan and San Jon.

From San Jon we continued back east into Texas, stopping near Vega to watch a dusty and outflowing cell.  Today was a bit of a disappointment, as we thought that we might have something really nice near Nara Visa.  The lousy road network near there prevented us from staying in good position on the storm.
