There were a bunch of tornadoes today — in Louisiana and Mississippi.  We started out at Clovis, and had to make our way NNE-ward into a logistically viable target area:  Kansas.  The best instability and shear combo was along and just south of I-70 in central Kansas.

As we neared the OK/KS border near Guymon, we could see a target storm developing…up near Hays and Russell!  That was only a zillion miles away. But, the storm motion was on our side, as it would soon be drifting southward.  We finally got close east of Kinsley, and it had some nice structure.  As expected, it was somewhat high-based and outflow-ish.  We got out of the way as it neared, and checked out another storm or two near Kinsley.  We went back east again to check out the hail swath, and found some stones near 2-inches in diameter.  With an hour or so of daylight remaining, we let the storms go, as we needed to be up close to the NE/SD border the next day.
