April 14, 2026 Western OK Marginally Severe

Expectations on this chase day were somewhat high, as SPC showed a 5 percent hatched swath from south of Childress to around Wichita. I was on my way east to OKC for the chase tour season and targeted southwestern OK. I was patient around Mangum and Granite as storms west up to my south and southwest and west. These storms congealed and got messy, and all I had was a laminar linear look on the junk to my west near Granite. A dud.

I think the high clouds during the day did a number on the surface heating. This diminished the severe weather prospects.
