April 29 was a reposition day SSW towards the middle of Texas. The play on the 29th near Del Rio and Uvalde was a bit too distant from western Arkansas. The pattern was looking quite poor for the final few days of this tour, but models showed some strong thunderstorms south of San Antonio on the evening of the 30th.

On the 30th we killed some time with some flowers and an elevated late-morning thunderstorm near Longhorn Caverns SP. After lunch we continued to the south, got rooms in Cotulla around sunset, and then waited for some late-evening storms west of Encinal. There was plenty of lightning, but most of it was buried in the clouds. I was hoping for some (visible) supercell structure on a storm or two coming out of Mexico, but that did not happen. The storms rolled through Cotulla around midnight.

With the very dead chase pattern locked in for a few days, we started our way back north on May 1. On the 2nd we visited the top of Mount Scott, near Lawton, and finished the day back in OKC.
