Storm Reports for June 9
I had today nailed. Chase on the lifting warm front through western North Dakota. This would be a prime locale for a tornado should a big storm form. Unfortunately, North Dakota has a northern border.
We drifted northwestward from Bismarck and stopped near New Town. Some new storms were down along I-94 and moving our way. That stuff was in fairly hot air and was high-based. The warm front was between our location and the U.S./Canada border…and continuing to edge northward. We needed to be on that front, except that not everyone in our group had the paperwork to enter Canada. And models and our eyeballs suggested that the show would be just a little onto the Canada side.
That is what transpired. There was a fine supercell and a tornado not too far into SK, while we watched rather junky, high-based stuff around Garrison. By sunset we were near Bismarck with a chaotic sky to photograph.
